The Teacher Training Program

New opportuntiy to join the Teacher Training Program!

The Teacher Training Program (TTP) is designed for people who wish to train as authentic Dharma Teachers or simply engage with Buddha's teachings in the deepest possible manner. In addition to completing the study of fourteen texts of Sutra and Tantra, the student is required to observe certain commitments with to behavior and way of life, and to complete a number of meditation retreats. Through a deep and continuing commitment to the program of study, meditation, discussion, and retreat, we can gain deep experience of Buddha's teachings, establish a strong meditation practice and become a qualified teacher in our own right.

On Jan. 24 we will begin a new text and there will be an opportunity for new people to join the program. Please email our Education Program Coordinator, Karla Hassenstein, if you wish to find out more epc@meditationinnewyork.org.

The Text

Mahamudra Tantra, an introduction to Tantric meditation and how to use our imagination to discover the peace and happiness that lies within each of us.

The Teacher

The Teacher Training Program is taught by Kadam Morten, the Resident Teacher at Chakrasambara Kadampa Meditation Center.

What is the Structure?
Students sign up to complete all the books and undertake to attend every class, to learn the material, and to take a test at the end. Class meets twicee a week for two and a half hours. If for a suitable reason a student is not able to attend the class in person, he or she undertakes to catch up by listening to the class podcast. There is also a commitment to participate in at least one chanted prayer session at the Center per week. Generally the students take it in turns to put up the shrine offerings, set up the meditation room etc. on
the day of their class. In this way we learn about the rituals associated with Buddhist practice.

What Happens at a Class?
Prior to class, students study an assigned portion of the text, usually a few pages long, and memorize the essential points. The class begins with chanted prayers and guided meditation. The teacher then reads from
the book while giving commentary to the text. Afterwards the students divide into pairs to discuss the section. The teacher and students then conclude
what to meditate on in the next class and how to practice during the week.

How Much will it cost?
The cost is $85 a month to become a monthly member which also includes General Program Classes at the Center and branches, weekend events and retreats at the Center and empowerments are half-price.
